Illinois GOP announces "I Give Republican Red" blood drive in June
3/16/2010
Red-blooded Illinois Republicans will join a nationwide effort to bolster the tireless, crucial life-saving efforts of the American Red Cross by organizing a statewide blood drive during the month of June, Illinois Republican National Committeewoman Demetra De Monte announced today.
“Few things are more important than rebuilding the nation’s blood supply during its neediest time of the year,” DeMonte said. “’I Give Republican Red’ is a new national community service initiative created by the Republican National Committee to support the Red Cross, and we’re excited to be one of the first states to get involved this year.”
The American Red Cross annually promotes its services to the public and fundraises for its efforts. “I Give Republican Red” will be the Illinois GOP’s first statewide blood drive. DeMonte reached out to participants in the Illinois Republican Party’s Coalition Leadership Team and received an overwhelming response from team members to sponsor and coordinate local efforts.
Thus far, Coalition members from four key Illinois cities have volunteered to coordinate drives. Chicago’s effort will be chaired by Kathy Thomas; Aurora’s by Gabriela Wyatt and Penny Falcon; Champaign’s by Stephanie Holderfield and Murphysboro’s by Terri Bryant.
“Every red-blooded Republican should donate to this important effort,” DeMonte said. “Whether by donating blood or writing a check, fewer activities demonstrate our joint concern for our fellow humans’ basic needs more than sharing the gift of life. This is just one practical, easy way for red-blooded Americans to put action to our words.”
Blood drive locations and dates are now being finalized. Information will be available in the near future on “I Give Republican Red” Facebook page and the IL GOP’s website found at WeAreIllinois.org.
