Mike Madigan = Man with No Shame

Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady released the following statement regarding State Representative Derrick Smith (D-Chicago) winning the Democratic primary despite being arrested and charged with accepting a bribe to promote a State daycare center grant:

“Mike Madigan is a man with no shame. He continued to assist a man charged with bribery just so he could keep another vote to keep his power as Speaker.

“Meanwhile, Mike Madigan won the Democratic primary for his own state house seat by boasting to his constituents in a mailer with Rod Blagojevich’s photo that ‘when law breaking politicians make a mess of things, we need strong leaders to clean things up’ despite the fact that he still supported Blagojevich’s re-nomination and re-election in 2006 when even fellow Democrats were questioning Blago’s ethics.

“I can’t wait to see how Madigan will now figure out a way to spin this now that the primary is over and claim that he was the one who cleaned up the Derrick Smith mess.

“Until there is a credible challenge by another Illinois Democrat to Madigan’s speakership, Illinois voters should know that a vote for any Democratic candidate for state representative is a vote to enable Mike Madigan’s shameless and unethical grip on power to continue.”
