State Rep. John Bradley (D-Hypocrisy)
8/30/2011
Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady said that it is "hypocritical" for State Rep. John Bradley (D-Marion) to oppose a proposed electricity rate hike while he voted for a 67% increase in the state income tax in January.
“Representative Bradley says that ‘People are hurting and they don't have extra money to pay’ but he cast the deciding vote in favor of the Quinn-Madigan-Cullerton 67% Tax Hike that will cost working families much more than the Ameren rate hike which I also oppose,” said Brady.
The proposed increase in electricity rates by Ameren would cost most households $100 per year. However, the 67% increase in the state income tax will cost a family of four earning $30,000 annually an additional $442 per year.
“It’s hypocritical for Representative Bradley to vote for a tax hike that will cost families in Illinois four times more than the Ameren rate hike,” said Brady. "Representative Bradley is more concerned about casting votes for Pat Quinn and Mike Madigan than he is about caring for working families in Southern Illinois."
The 67% income tax increase passed the Illinois House of Representatives by one vote last January. Bradley voted in favor of the increase, while every Republican in the General Assembly voted against it.
