State GOP announces first round winners in Illinois Madness Tournament to find Biggest Tax & Spend Democrats
3/19/2011
The Illinois GOP’s IllinoisMadness.com Tournament to find the Biggest Tax and Spend Illinois Democrat featured a few surprises in Round 1 and some more key matchups in Round 2.
While the four #1 seeds, Pat Quinn, Mike Madigan, John Cullerton, and Barack Obama, coasted to victory due to their big Tax & Spend ways, two Statewide Democratic officials went down to lesser known Tax & Spend Democrats from the Metro East Area.
Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon, the #4 Seed in the High Gas Prices Region, was toppled by #13 Seed Madison County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan. Experts say Madison County's ranking by business groups as an “Illinois Judicial Hellhole” may have fired up Dunstan against the inexperienced Simon.
In another bracket buster, the Spend, Spend, Spend Region’s #3 Seed, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, saw his big lead tumble to #14 Seed St. Clair County Clerk Bob Delaney as Delaney’s office finally got around to counting military absentee ballots from last November’s election.
However, the most drama of the tournament this week was in the Play-In Game between the Wisconsin & Indiana Democratic Flee Party State Senators. An apparent narrow Wisconsin win was overturned by an angry mob of “community organizers” rushing the court prior to the expiration of time in the game resulting in a bench technical. Indiana Dems (in true ‘Hoosiers’ fashion) hit the free throws to win the game. The victory, however, was short-lived as the #16 Flee Party Team didn’t show up to play against the #1 Seed, as they knew there was no way they could win and were hoping they could stall their defeat like they’ve done in their day jobs as state legislators.
Round 2 looks to be just as exciting with matchups like Chicago Mayor-Elect Rahm Emanuel facing Cook County Commissioner John Daley, though obscene language by @MayorEmanuel will force this game to be broadcast on a seven second delay.
To coincide with the NCAA Tournament Rounds, voting for Round 2 is now open at IllinoisMadness.com (see link below) through Sunday at midnight. Unlike the NCAA brackets, voters are allowed to vote after each round. As usual, voters are also encouraged by the Illinois Democrats in the competition to “vote early and often.”
