Illinois GOP announces November 'Pre-Presidential' Straw Poll at Reagan Centennial
2/6/2011
In front of hundreds of volunteers and activists at the Centennial birthday celebration for President Ronald Reagan, Senator Mark Kirk and Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady announced a November 5, 2011 "Pre-Presidential Primary" straw poll for Republican voters in Illinois. The poll will occur one year and a day before the 2012 Presidential Election.
The ballot will be formalized by the party's state central committee and announced at Republican Day at the Illinois State Fair in August.
“We hope to bring the time and attention of the presidential candidates to Illinois," said Senator Kirk. "New Hampshire and Iowa should not have all the fun."
"The straw poll will be conducted exactly one year before the 2012 election," Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady said. "This will help energize our voters while also adding resources for winning races for Congress and state offices."
The announcement was made alongside potential presidential candidates including: Speaker Newt Gingrigh (R-GA), Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), Ambassador John Bolton (R-MD) and Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN).
