Illinois GOP Chairman Letter to Justice Dept. Regarding Military Ballots
10/17/2010
Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady has requested the U.S. Department of Justice and the Illinois State Board of Elections take immediate action to investigate whether each election authority sent its military ballots in compliance with Federal Law in a letter to the DOJ.
If an election authority did not comply with federal law, Chairman Brady requests DOJ remedy the problem by entering into a consent decree or other agreement to make sure no uniformed service member is denied their right to vote.
The letter references media reports and Illinois State Board of Elections data showing that nearly a third of the state’s election authorities sent military ballots after the September 18 deadline – some more than two weeks past the deadline.
