Republicans Blast Quinn Over Ethics Probe
8/23/2010
From the Associated Press
Republicans were quick to pounce on Gov. Pat Quinn after his chief of staff quit over the weekend amid an ethics probe.
Republican Bill Brady's campaign said Monday it raises a "myriad of questions" Quinn must answer. And GOP Party chairman Pat Brady accused Quinn of "trying to sweep this under the rug."
Quinn announced earlier this month that he was replacing his office watchdog on the same day he was briefed about an ethics probe of his chief of staff who quit this weekend.
Quinn's office denied the decision not to reappoint James Wright as executive inspector general was in retaliation for investigating former Quinn chief of staff Jerry Stermer.
Stermer resigned after using his state account to send three e-mails that he said Wright found to be prohibited under state ethics rules.
